Mr. Devajyoti Barman is a seasoned legal practitioner with over twenty-four (24) years of core litigation experience across various Courts of law in Kolkata, including the High Court, Calcutta, and the Supreme Court of India. Over the course of his distinguished career, he has built a formidable presence in civil, criminal, constitutional, corporate, and commercial litigation. He is the Managing Partner of Ace Legal, a law firm with an established presence across India that offers comprehensive litigation and advisory services to a diverse clientele.
He is presently the Standing Counsel for the Food Corporation of India before the High Court at Calcutta and has been empanelled as Advocate for Navratna public sector undertakings such as Hindustan Steelworks Construction Limited and NBCC (India) Limited. His empanelment also extends to leading financial and municipal institutions, including the Central Bank of India, IDBI Bank, Kolkata Municipal Corporation, and Sundaram BNP Paribas, representing them before the High Court, NCLT, and Commercial Courts. Additionally, he serves as Counsel and Legal Adviser to the Dredging Corporation of India.
Mr. Barman has also served as an in-house Legal Adviser to numerous corporate houses including C.S. Dredgers Pvt. Ltd., E.C. Bose and Company, Dharti Dredging and Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd., Andrew Yule Ltd., Lintas India Pvt. Ltd., Basu and Basu Engineering, Hyatt Medical, Star Financial Ltd., Homeslocated, Jaital Construction Ltd., Sandgate Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Modula Group of Industries, and Hindustan Marine Institute, among others. In these capacities, he has handled a wide range of civil, criminal, and corporate disputes, including drafting and vetting domestic and international agreements, conducting due diligence, and rendering opinions for real estate companies in and around Kolkata.
He has represented and advised major financial institutions, including HDFC Bank, Sahara Housing Finance Limited, and ICICI Bank, and currently looks after matters for Manappuram Finance Limited and Sundaram BNP Paribas Home Finance Limited. He acts as in-house counsel for several reputed real estate entities, including NK Realtors, Golwin Construction Pvt. Ltd., and Pyramid Construction Pvt. Ltd., advising on complex property transactions, regulatory compliance, and dispute resolution.
Throughout his career, Mr. Barman has worked as a retainer providing comprehensive legal assistance and in-house support across multiple law firms in India, handling drafting, pleadings, documentation, and litigation strategy in both civil and criminal matters. He has been closely associated with various law firms in conducting title scrutiny and searches, and in issuing legal opinions for major banks and financial institutions licensed by the Reserve Bank of India, particularly in relation to loan approvals for real estate projects undertaken by individuals and corporate bodies.
He is actively associated with Save India Family, providing legal assistance against the misuse of matrimonial laws, particularly matters under Section 498A of the IPC, and extending legal support to NGOs and affected individuals in matrimonial disputes.
